Project Brief

Problem: Learn the fundamentals of both Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to create a two part project. Part one; Using Adobe Illustrator, design a poster with stylized graphics based on a famous inventor and the invention they are associated with. Part 2; Using Adobe Photoshop, manipulate various photos and elements to create a panel series further explaining an aspect of either the invention or inventor.

Study and Practice: This project would be my first leap into digital graphics and anything digital media design overall. Using Adobe illustrator I made various stylizations of my chosen invention and inventor. Shown are stylizations for Peter Heinlein. Color studies were output as part of the process to better understand working with color. The practice allowed me to design a poster of a pocket-watch masked within the silhouette of Peter Heinlein. The second part of the project had me manipulate images with Adobe Photoshop for the first time. The various skill assignments made it easy to understand the basics of photo manipulation. The aspect of the invention I chose to further study was the escapement (time keeping gear) used in clocks throughout history. Each panel uses various elements that tie the panels together neatly, explaining in chronological order the evolution of the escapements. The result is an output of 5 panels made using Adobe Photoshop.
